One Month Before Surgery

I am officially one month from surgery!  That's a scary thought, haha. The last few months have flown by and I've noticed some big changes in my bite, my smile and my profile. I am really looking forward to seeing the changes after the surgery.

I visited my orthodontist yesterday, which will be the last time I see him until after the surgery. I was a little surprised by this, since everyone always says you go to your orthodontist to have the surgical hooks put on. But when I asked about this he said the oral surgeon would take care of it. Max, is that what happened to you? It just seems so weird, like he's just so laid back about the whole thing. My pre-surgery appointment with my oral surgeon is on sept 4, and I'm hoping my X-rays I took yesterday actually make it there, since up til now my oral surgeon has yet to see an actual X-ray of my face. That's weird, right? The lady at the orthodontist office said it would be there for my next appointment, but I think I'm going to call a few days ahead of time just to double check.

We took my pre-surgery photos yesterday, after taking the mold of my teeth, lol. But, I was able to finally get a copy of it along with my pre-braces photos.

So the pre-surgery photos aren't the greatest, one looks like an awful drivers license or passport photo and in the other I look drunk, haha. But there's been some big changes over the last year!

Now comes the time to stop preparing for the surgery, which I'm not at all prepared for yet. I mean mentally I think I'm ok, I know everything's going to be fine and all the pain will be worth it in the end. But I'm very unprepared in the way of supplies and what I'm going to need to get me through the tough times. For those that have gone through the surgery, what did you find the most useful?? As of right now I have nothing. I know about the syringes, and I believe  having that extra tubing on the end helps, right? But where do you get supplies like that? And what supplies are worth the money?? I'm going to need help with stuff, please!!

  1. Hey Amy! I'm so excited for you!!! I didn't have surgical hooks either. Dr. Stapleford made for make-shift surgical hooks during surgery. Also, the tubing on the end of the syringe is pointless, in my opinion. I made a surgery supply list if you want to look it over. Please let me know if you have any questions! After surgery, life is not at all focused on your jaw anymore. You're going to love it! Take care!!

  3. Hi Max!! I've just spent the last hour looking over all your surgery posts, haha. I've been making a list off your list and figuring out what and where I'm going to get things! I've been trying to figure out what I'll have to buy online so I can have it here in time for the surgery. It seems everyone says the jaw bra is one of the best things you can get, did you get your online? And the squeeze pouches, were those online too? And you mention tiger balm, I've never heard of that before, what do you do with it? And any recommendations for where to get it around here? I feel like I have so many questions! Haha.

The pictures aren't showing up for me anymore either:( I don't know what happened. They worked at first, I'll have to try to repost them.

  4. Umm the jaw bra and squeeze pouches I got from craniorehab.com. I think I posted a link directly to what I bought on my list. I usually get Tiger Balm from a chinese grocery store on dougall. It's just south of the Superstore. But I wouldn't worry about the Tiger Balm unless your joints get sore. I talked way too much the first few days, so I kind of did it to myself. Make sure you rest even if you feel okay! Please ask me anything! Actually, my email is ouellet7@uwindsor.ca if you want to directly contact me. I have lots of supplies that I never used or are barely used, so if you're comfortable with it, I can pass them along to you.

  7. It's crazy, I'm down to 8 days now, so the nerves are starting to hit a bit! But I'm excited that pretty soon this is all going to be behind me :) I read your blog Anthony, why does it take so long just to get the braces on?? I'm thankful it's not like that over here, if it had been I probably wouldn't have gone through with all this if it was!
